Caracalla: sogno di una notte di fine estate Starting now: evening guided tours of the ancient Baths with the exhibition Mauro Staccioli. Sensibile ambientale
21 aug – 02 oct 2018
The monumental remains and sculptures by Mauro Staccioli illuminated in the night: the evening visits to the Baths of Caracalla, one of the most striking night walks in ancient Rome, this year enhanced by the exhibition Mauro Staccioli. Sensibile ambientale. The Caracalla: Sogno di una Notte di Fine Estate initiative is to be held from 21 August to 2 October, every Tuesday and Friday evening, with guided tours.
The visits, lasting 75 minutes, start at 7.30 pm with the last departure at 9.00 pm, with groups of up to 30 participants. The starting point is the central area of the monument. After visiting the interiors of the Baths we descend to the underground levels, a maze of tunnels and the beating heart of the whole building, containing the facilities that supplied the thermal baths on the surface. The visit ends at the Mithraeum, the place of worship devoted to the cult of Mithras, with the mysterious ‘fossa sanguinis’, where the ritual sacrifices took place.
