Visioni (im)possibili

This volume accompanies two important exhibitions presented in Parma by the CSAC-Centro Studi e Archivio della Comunicazione. The first, “Visioni (im)possibili. Comunicazione, Utopia, Progetto (Abbey of Valserena, 20 January – 14 April 2024) investigates the legacy of the Bauhaus in Italy in the second half of the twentieth century; the second, Visioni (im)possibili. Spazio, Luce, Movimento nelle Collezioni CSAC (Palazzo Pigorini, 20 January – 24 March 2024) is wholly devoted to works of kinetic and programmed art.
In addition to the photo albums of the works on display, the book brings together a series of essays in depth that analyse the exhibition work as a whole.

The exhibition project stemmed from a process of re-reading the collections preserved at the CSAC to bring out the connection between this programme, its historical reference – the Bauhaus – and future goals. The result is a profound reflection on the legacy of the school, of that feeling and conceiving visual communication in the service of society, to participate in the construction of a better world.
Numerous artists are on display and documented in the volume: from Lucio Fontana to Enrico Castellani, from Gio Pomodoro to Mario Schifano, Giosetta Fioroni, Luigi Veronesi, Franco Grignani, Mario Giacomelli, Carlo Cisventi, Pier Luigi Nervi, Roberto Sambonet and Gio Ponti. To these are added Getulio Alviani, Alberto Biasi, Davide Boriani, Ennio Chiggio, Gianni Colombo, Gabriele Devecchi, Juraj Dobrović, Horacio Garcia Rossi, Enzo Mari, Manfredo Massironi, Bruno Munari and Grazia Varisco, who in particular have donated to the university archive important works of programmed, kinetic and visual art, which gave rise to the focus of the exhibition on kinetic and perceptual research. At the time, they intended to promote a global renewal of communication and therefore of the relationship between art and the public.
