“In writing these stories, I thought not so much of a display of specialist erudition, but a sharing of the emotions that each product has given me, hence the decision to describe them as ‘small’ stories; without the ambition of comparing them with the ‘great’ official stories of design, which have the role and merit of conveying the culture of the project, but with the desire to share the idea that design is a humanistic activity far beyond its scientific character and technique.

Italian design, in particular, has the characteristic ability to place products in their own time and in a much broader context than that dictated by geographical or disciplinary boundaries, a context that has people at its center.
