Visitors to the Museum of Capodimonte, especially those coming for the first time, discover with amazement an immense collection - primarily an art gallery, yet also a museum of decorative arts and cabinet of drawings - which by the importance of its collection considerably exceeds the level of any regional museum.
English edition.
Capodimonte is a royal museum, a dynastic collection and an inheritance, to which the artistic fruits of a sumptuous court is added. Capodimonte is perhaps the only museum in Italy which, at the highest level, is able to illustrate the history of art from the thirteenth century, from one masterpiece to another, through the Renaissance until contemporary art. The marvels of the Italian Schools and of the Nordic and French Masters parade before our very eyes, alongside which march the applied arts, cabinetry, porcelain and arms and armour. Thanks to the generosity of Neapolitan artists and collectors, the Museum of Capodimonte is also one of the foremost museums of contemporary art in Italy.
