The expansion, not only in military and political terms, of Rome along the axis of an ancient road, the Postumia: the spread of Roman culture in northern Italy from the 3rd to the 1st century BC.

In 1998 an archaeological exhibition was held in Cremona on the theme of an ancient road, the Postumia, seen primarily as an axis of the spread of culture and contact among peoples. New historical and archaeological findings, studies on the landscape and territorial modifications, on settlement, art and the economy, but also an assessment of the most recent scientific research on the theme of the spread of Roman culture in the territories of northern Italy from the 3rd to the 1st century BC. The Il catalogue, complete with splendid images and pertinent critical writings, assembled by a committee of internationally renowned experts, illustrates certain aspects related to the ancient road: the pre-Roman peoples, the construction and significance of the great road and the agricultural modeling of the landscape, the development from Romanization to Romanity of the cities along the road, the decay of the route and the formation of alternative routes of transit.
