Luciano Caramel was born in Como in 1935 and pursued academic studies in multiple directions.
His studies on Italian abstract art between the two wars, seen from a perspective of international comparisons and links, should be considered his foremost historical and artistic contribution. Sponsored by CRA.IT, this book assembles his main writings about an art scene on which the protagonists of the times – from Reggiani, Soldati and Licini to Melotti, Fontana and Veronesi alongside the Como Group of Artists (Radice, Rho, Badiali, Galli) close to the architectural rationalism of Terragni and Cattaneo – stand out for their singular creativeness, artists who fully embraced the spirit of great change experienced in the art of the first half of the century. His contributions bring back the vestiges and memories of the major exhibitions that generated them.
