Rubens a Genova. Guida

Caption

A richly illustrated guide accompanies the visitor through the rooms of the exhibition ‘Rubens in Genoa’, held at Palazzo Ducale from 6 October 2022 to 5 February 2023. This major exhibition focuses on the greatest Baroque painter ever, Peter Raul Rubens, and his relationship with the city. Rubens stayed on various occasions in Genova between 1600 and 1607 and thus had direct contact – and in some cases very close – with the richest and most influential aristocrats of the city.

The works shown are more than 150, among which, playing the role of protagonists, more than twenty Rubens works from European and Italian collections and museums (with some very significant ‘re-entries’), which sum up to the ones present in the city, reaching a number such as there has not been since the end of the 18th century in Genova.

Starting with the Rubensian nucleus, the story of the cultural and artistic context of the city in the period of its utmost splendour is completed by paintings by the authors that Rubens certainly saw and studied.
Furthermore, are exhibited many drawings, engravings, tapestries, furnishings, antique volumes, even clothes, feminine accessories and jewels, which allow to celebrate the grandeur of an artistic capital visited by one of the major artists of all times and confirming the appellation of Superb, given to Genova.
