Roma Meravigliosa

Caption

The book guides visitors to the Eternal City on a journey to the centre of Rome. The most famous and conspicuous monumental remains of the ancient city are concentrated in the archaeological precinct in the heart of Rome, largely comprised in the boundaries of the Colosseum Archaeological Park. Public places (forums with basilicas, libraries, archives, courts, markets, leisure buildings), private spaces (the residences of aristocrats and sumptuous imperial residences), and sacred places (the countless temples of the state religion). Everything seems to revolve around the navel of history: on the Palatine Hill Romulus founded a civilisation destined to conquer the world. The Capitoline Hill became the dwelling of the gods; the Forums were transformed over time from the settings of events into the stage of their representation. This enormous archaeological heritage, constituting the backbone of a medieval and modern metropolis with which it necessarily has to coexist today, is represented by general pictures and concise insights into the unmissable places, the highlights of the city. A visit to Rome remains an indispensable experience for an essential understanding of the city of the Caesars.
