The female world that D'Annunzio so adored is reconstructed using the sumptuous legacy of evening dresses and déshabillés that the writer had made up for the Vittoriale's numerous house-guests.
The third part of the exhibition cycle dedicated to “Vivere inimitabile: Eleganze notturne” (Inimitable Life: Nocturnal elegance) reconstructs the female world adored by D’Annunzio and which has left its traces at the Vittoriale. Its wardrobes and drawers have yielded up an incredible legacy of nightdresses, dressing gowns and slips made from precious sensual fabrics given by D’Annunzio to his many lovers, designing them himself, having them made up by the finest couture-houses, and signing them Gabriel Nuncius Vestiarius. The volume includes the catalogue of these exceptional déshabillés as well as a reconstruction of D’Annunzio’s relationships with women and love that draws upon his writings and historic photographs of the Vittoriale’s many guests.
