The guide, richly illustrated, accompanies visitors to discover the Park of Naxos in Taormina. The Park was established in 2007, and comprises the site of the same name, the first colony in Sicily to be founded by the Chalcidian Greeks. From 2010 to 2019 the park was expanded with the areas culturally linked to Naxos that constituted the continuity of its settlement through the centuries, namely Taormina and Francavilla di Sicilia. Subsequently it incorporated other regional state property present in this same area possessing notable landscape values, such as Isola Bella and Villa Caronia, and those of monumental importance, such as the Castle of Schis, Palazzo Ciampoli and Castel Tauro. In 2019 the area was further expanded to the Agrò Valley, which comprises the Abbey of Santi Pietro e Paolo d’Agrò in the municipality of Casalvecchio Siculo. It is therefore a widespread, interdisciplinary network park. The whole area assigned is characterised by the presence of a unique, varied and unrepeatable cultural and natural heritage, both by the individual archaeological and monumental landmarks, and as a whole, by its landscape and naturalistic values. A heritage that, today as in the time of Goethe – who in 1787 described the ancient theatre as “the most immense work of nature and art” – despite the centuries-old processes of anthropic change, promotes visitor experiences that can only be termed memorable.
