Palazzo dei Giureconsulti a Milano

€ 45,00

The book reconstructs the architectural, urban and artistic history of the Palazzo dei Giureconsulti and Piazza dei Mercanti, describing the recent restoration that has affected all parts of the building.

Commissioned in 1560 by the Milanese Pope Pius IV as the seat of the College of Jurisconsults, the body that selected the political and administrative personnel of the State of Milan, the building stands in the nodal and identitarian space of Piazza dei Mercanti in Milan. It is a Mannerist masterpiece by Galeazzo Alessi built by Vincenzo Seregni with an extensive team of sculptors from the Lombard lakes, with the completion of the clock by Lelio Buzzi. The seventeenth-century figurative cycles that adorned the building are only partly preserved. The installation of the Chamber of Commerce in the building led to the last historical phase before its post-war restoration in eclectic-historicist style. The illustrations accompanying the volume, in addition to the historical documentation, are enriched by the detailed photo shoot by the photographer Marco Introini on completion of the restoration work.
