The chronicle of a farsighted urban intervention offering to young Italian and foreign architecture studios an important professional chance. ? A project pursuing urban, environmental and architectonic quality.

This volume is the chronicle of the urbanistic and architectonic vicissitudes that since the Thirties have been leading to the realization of the new quarter of Novoli, on the outskirts of Florence. From the elaboration of the urban plan for the 32 hectares [79 acres] of the area occupied by Fiat plants, developed by Leon Krier, to the renewal plan arranged at the beginning of the Nineties by Roberto Gabetti and Amaro Isola. The book deals with the different stages of the project, up to the most recent developments elaborated and realized in more than 15 years of activity. Novoli project offers an important occasion for reflecting on purposes, strategies and methods of intervention of urban policy in Florence, and more generally in Italy, whose aim is that of recovering urban quality through a punctual and aware planning of the territory.
