This volume accompanies the homonymous exhibition curated by Diego Cavallaro and Michele Romano presented at the Galleria Regionale of Palazzo Bellomo in Syracuse from 7 December 2023 to 31 March 2024.
The focus is on the dialogue of Antonello da Messina’s work, the Annunciation, with paintings on the same theme in different styles and historical periods: from a triptych with various narratives to a painting on glass of popular culture and an altarpiece, all preserved in the deposits and never before exhibited in the museum.
The novelty of this exhibition is the presence of eight contemporary artists, who exhibit their works with the theme “Messages and Annunciations”. A bold choice that involves masters of our time with Antonello’s theme of the Marian Annunciation, a new project for a historic museum but certainly innovative in museum education. The artists in the exhibition are Salvatore Alessi, Elisa Anfuso, Giuseppe Colombo, Filippo La Vaccara, Antonio Nuccio, Benedetto Poma, Tina Sgrò and Samantha Torrisi.
