Electa publishes the bilingual catalogue of Annette Messager's first personal exhibition, in the rooms of the French Academy of Rome – Villa Medici from the 10th of February to the 23d of April 2017.
This is the first volume of a new series dedicated to contemporary art in the form of the artist’s book: this is in fact Annette Messager’s diary, dedicated to Villa Medici with a poster created for the occasion. At Villa Medici Annette has designed a unique and dreamlike journey, populated by creatures created especially for the exhibition. A journey which explores revolutions with female protagonists and calls into question prejudices with the will to convert our taboos into totems. With her unique interpretation of our time, and her gift of creating dreams that often outstrip reality, Annette Messager tears down stereotypes and questions society’s clichés on femininity.
