The book is issued during the exhibition Louise Bourgeois: L’inconscio della memoria presented in Rome, at the Borghese Gallery from 21 June to 15 September 2024.
Celebrated in various exhibitions, from Un duo en solo. Carol Rama & Louise Bourgeois, at the Cabinet Cantonal des Estampes of the Musée Jenisch in Vevey in 2000, to the most recent Bricoleuses: The Art of Louise Bourgeois & Carol Rama at the Fergus McCaffrey gallery in New York and in the group show Lacan, l’exposition. Quand l’Art Rencontre la Psychanalyse at the Centre Pompidou in Metz; the relationship between Louise Bourgeois and Carol Rama was an enduring sisterhood, as were their extraordinary careers. The essay offers a critical reading of the itineraries and achievements of these two artists, choosing the female body as the leitmotiv. Considering three main periods, the forties, sixties and nineties, the author represents Bourgeois and Rama’s part in the renewal of artistic expression as well as their ability to be protagonists, as artists and women, of developments in international contemporary art.
