[The honors of war. The collection of the Museum of Castelvecchio] This catalogue accompanied the exhibition in a trip back in time across five centuries of history. An outstanding initiative aimed at giving visibility to the works held by the Civic Museums, presenting a fine collection (approximately 300 pieces) of weapons from the 14th to the 19th century. One section featured non-European weapons, with articles from Africa, the Balkans, Japan and the Islamic area. Caucasian daggers in engraved silver and steel, sabers from the Ottoman empire with long curved blades, multiple-blade knives with gold decorations.
From the West to the East, in this volume 500 illustrations offer a very precise overview of military equipment: shields and armor, blades and firearms, paintings on military themes, coins and commemorative medals. Each article is documented with measurements, origin and bibliographic references; descriptive texts illustrate each object in its historical context.
