The Italian figurative contribution from the mid-1800s to the First World War on the theme of the mountains: paintings, photographs, documents.
The exhibition held in Milan “The Cathedrals of the Earth”, curated by Letizia Scherini, sheds light on the Italian figurative contribution from the mid-1800s to the First World War on the theme of the mountains, in a period in which landscape painting was revitalized, emerging across Europe as a genre in its own right. The catalogue features works by Carcano, Balduino, Dell’Orto, Morbelli, Segantini, among others, in which the Alpine landscape is approached with different expressive languages. The volume also includes an evocative selection of literature, photography and film on the theme of the mountains.
