Dedicated to Schifano's work with previously unpublished illustrations
Mario Schifano is one of the most versatile and innovative figures to emerge on the international art scene during the second half of the 20th century. He feels that painting is a tool and an end to explore the new languages of information and communication. His astoundingly contemporary transmedial vision is the fulcrum of the book, focusing on the photographs that are manipulated by the artist through painting, in a characteristic cross-pollination of different media and different genres.
The extensive corpus of pictures and documents the Schifano archives have gathered and catalogued over a long period of research is now presented to the public for the first time in a systematic, independent format, with a broad selection that shows continuity, variations and their meaning.
