When Gabriele Basilico was in Rome, his photographic “method” generated a series of images that partly reshaped the Milan-born photographer’s stylistic identity. To capture Rome’s evolving urban spaces, he could no longer rely on the silent, majestically isolated structures of industrial modernity he always shot without any human presence whatsoever—the approach that had defined his core narrative style until then. This book celebrates Gabriele Basilico and “his” Rome through a photographic approach that tells the story of a modern city capable of effortlessly combining the sleek, imposing, reflective structures of rationalist modernity with temples, arches, and palazzi from its ancient past, all against a shared monumental backdrop.
