The volume edited by the main expert on Frida Kahlo catalogues a unique exhibition as a result of a long research and great commitment carried out under the scientific supervision of Azienda SpecialePalaexpo. The exhibition gathers many of the most famous masterpieces from all over the world
A revolutionary spirit that lead to a new evaluation of the natives’ past and their folkloric traditions deeply permeate every picture. Both past and traditions are intended as unextinguishable identity codes in which self-expression, language, imagination, colours and symbols of Mexican popular culture merge. Unusual art works that have never been presented in Italy are skilfully exhibited along with a wide selection of paintings, authors and movements contemporary to Frida’s time. Her innovative art meets the artistic background and is now set in an international frame: Metaphysical art, Dadaism, New Objectivity and Surrealism, of course. On this particular occasion foreign experts, and in particular Salomon Grimberg, have written essays which so originally take on subjects of great interest. Finally leaving behind the novel stereotype of a relentless life, the volume also includes photographic pictures of the artist, especially the ones by Nickolas Muray in the forties, which reveal the iconography of an extraordinary exponent of political, social and cultural changes of the twentieth century.
