A tribute to the work of Eugenio Carmi, "landscape painter of the new nature", as Eco defines him in the essay published in this volume.
A new monograph, updated to 2000, retraces all the phases of the original artistic career of Eugenio Carmi (Genoa 1920).
In the first of the two contributions in the book Umberto Eco presents the Genoese artist as a modern landscape painter: a landscape painter of the new nature, the urban-industrial nature that surrounds us today.
The essay by Caramel, on the other hand, analyzes the return of the artist to painting after years of research and investigation of the methods and materials of the technological society. Leaving behind the compositions made with heterogeneous fragments (paper, bags, metals), Carmi returned to a painting based on basic geometric schemes.
The book also features biographical notes, a listing of exhibitions and a bibliography.
