Volume Four in the Enciclopedia delle arti contemporanee. I portatori del tempo series, edited by Achille Bonito Oliva, is entitled Tempo pieno with a foreword by Paolo Virno. In the dialectic regarding the empty time (tempo vuoto) of “potentiality” and the full time (tempo pieno) of “actuality”, philosophy has been striving to answer the enigmas and paradoxes of temporality since Aristotle and the classics of Oriental thought. It makes it possible to move beyond the difference between silence and noise, interval and action. Paradoxically, all Wagner’s work binds with that of Schönberg, Berg and Webern, the Suprematism of Malevich, Fontana’s slashes, the work of Brancusi, the architecture of Gaudì, the minimal and musical art of Andre and Glass and so on to environmental art. This volume contains essays by: Federico Capitoni on music, Stefano Chiodi on architecture, Michele Dantini on the visual arts, Enrico Ghezzi and Lorenzo Esposito on films, Marco Senaldi on the new media, Annalisa Sacchi on the theatre, Roberta Valtorta on photography and Andrea Cortellessa on literature. The glossary is by Marie Rebecchi.
