This project created by Achille Bonito Oliva sets out to analyze all the historical Avant-garde movements, starting with the concept of time, with a brilliant introduction by Massimo Cacciari.
In the 20th century, a new concept of time burst into the world, sustained by the various definitions and depictions given to it by artists, musicians, poets, writers and scientists like Freud, Einstein, Marx, Picasso, de Chirico, Stravinsky, Joyce, Proust, Pound and others. This book examines the many diverse forms of contemporary art: art, architecture, photography, literature, theater, music, films and new media are examined by great Italian essayists and accompanied by rich photographic content.
The general introduction is written by a thinker of our time, while the conclusions are drawn in a final summary penned by Achille Bonito Oliva. At the end is a glossary of concepts giving short, clear definitions of all the main terms used. The introduction by Massimo Cacciari, on the subject of Tempo Comico (Comic Time), starts with a philosophical reflection of Nietsche then goes on, artistically speaking, from the metaphysical image of De Chirico to the Pop Art of Warhol, with quotes from Picabia, Baselitz and Cucchi, touching on literature, music, architecture and the cinema.
