Davide Rivalta, an artist with an international reputation, has long been exploring subjects from the animal world recreated in bronze, aluminium or fiberglass in large dimensions, enhancing their majesty and enigmatic feral nature, giving them an aura of freedom. The creatures chosen by Rivalta are the result of a personal fascination of the artist and a study of the subjects that relates them profoundly to the setting where they are exhibited.

Lions and buffaloes remind us not only that the Earth is not the centre of the Universe, but also that we are not the centre of life on this planet. They confront us with our inexplicable resistance to seeing ourselves as a part of nature: one of the key issues in relation to climate change, the exploitation of resources, respect and care for our planet.

These animals determine the conditions of coexistence, of cohabitation, but at the same time they move, migrate and appear in unexpected places, such as the green expanses of the Dublin countryside. Here on 31 May the exhibition “Grazing in Lucan” was inaugurated, an exhibition project promoted by the Italian Embassy with the Italian Cultural Institute. The exhibition and the volume accompanying it showcase the spectacular and scenically monumental sculptures of the Bolognese artist.
