Mario Maioli (1931), an architect and pupil of Ernesto Nathan Rogers, in the early 1960s designed architectural works and urban plans together with the most successful ltalian professionals of his generation as well as working on product design with Pier Luigi Spadolini. In the early 1970s he began his work for the Gruppo Fiat, first holding positions in the technical-urban planning field and later as the supervisor of design coordination at Lancia (1977-92), Fiat (1980-92) and Alfa Romeo (1986-92). lt was in those years that he created some of the most iconic ltalian automobiles.
Always deeply interested in the relationship between technology and design, over the years he also kept up close ties with his father’s jewellery workshop and the goldsmithing tradition. Gifted with an outstanding sensibility for craft skills and the potential and industrial techniques of working materials, acquired over his decades of design in the automotive field, he has shaped his jewels as one-off pieces that are featured in these pages.
