[Unknown Brera. A bel canto virtuosa depicted by Giuseppe Molteni: Giuditta Pasta in Nina o sia la pazza per amore] The ninth edition of the Unknown Brera cycle focuses on bel canto, presenting the portrait in room XXXVII of the Picture Gallery of Giuditta Pasta, painted by Giuseppe Molteni in 1829 and recently acquired by the Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities and sent to the Brera museum. Giuseppe Molteni, who was still very young but already renowned as a portrait painter, so much so that critics were beginning to compare his work to that of Francesco Hayez, had the honor of welcoming the famous singer to his studio and painting her portrait in the role of Nina, the protagonist of one of the most popular operas by Giovanni Paisiello Nina o sia la pazza per amore, performed in July at Teatro Carcano in Milan.
