Two works from the Brera storerooms: the collaboration of two Leonardesque painters.
[Unseen Brera / Giovanni Agostino da Lodi and Marco d’Oggiono: duo paintings from Santa Maria della Pace in Milan] The third initiative in 2002 of “Unseen Brera” presents two paintings on panels from the storerooms: the Adoration of the Magi and the Baptism of Christ created as a “duo” by the Leonardesque painters Giovanni Agostino da Lodi and Marco d’Oggiono, originally from the church of Santa Maria della Pace in Milan.
This publication presents the works after their recent restoration. As is often the case, the restoration provided an opportunity for further study of the techniques of execution, the chromatic range and the personal language of the artists.
In this specific case the cleaning and radiographic and reflectographic research revealed the collaboration of the two artists on both paintings, a fact already known to scholars but now made visually perceptible for the public as well, as the author (also the restorer of the paintings) explains. A third text discusses another recently restored painting by Giovanni Agostino da Lodi, the Madonna with Child and an Angel.
