The book is much more than a historical reconstruction marking the centenary of the Bauhaus foundation (1919/2019). In addition to its consolidated history, it capitalises on all the most coherent interpretations, trying to go further, with all the risks of a journey that, in the present and especially in the future, attempts to identify in circumstantial detail what remains of that “revolutionary spirit” and whether it is still possible to design by focusing on ideas and not just “things”.
From the extraordinary and unique collection of Italo Rota to the languages of digital culture by Maria Grazia Mattei, the images on the covers of the review “La Lettura” and the sculpture by Alberto Meda: at the centre of a city, Macerata, that was the birthplace of Ivo Pannaggi, one of the three Italian students of the Bauhaus, undoubtedly the most eclectic, and a region, the Marche, which in its way of designing and producing always had the model of the German school in mind: “an industrialization without fractures”, as Giorgio Fuà wrote.
