The Campania region decided to finance and promote this important publication, by Vincenzo Trione, in order to create the first "archive" of a vast cultural and human legacy, not only for study and special interest but also for learning, through art, about the region's leading figures, its changes and transformations.
Culturally, Campania is one of Italy’s most fascinating and dynamic regions, fundamental to the development of languages and as a source of new talent and new sensibilities. It has been thus for centuries, such as in the days when the Reggia (Royal Palace) was built and the art collections and galleries were created, today making it host to one of Europe’s most important networks of museums. And it has become increasingly so as contemporary art has entered people’s daily lives via Naples’ incredible underground stations. Works by contemporary artists and world-class architects have quickly blended with the historic buildings, the panorama, the archaeology, the spires and the baroque, and now such works find a frame of reference in Naples’ MADRE museum.
