This book serves as a guide to the “Artisti all’Opera” exhibition at the Museo di Roma (Palazzo Braschi) from 17th November 2017 to 11th March 2018. The exhibition traces the history of Rome’s Opera House from its inception under Costanzi to the present day. The catalogue is a compendium of people who have contributed to the Opera Houses’ success: composers, directors, musicians, interpreters, scenographers, costume designers, or simply artists, all featured following a diachronic and thematical pattern, from Mascagni to Puccini, from Visconti to Zeffirelli, from Picasso to de Chirico, from Burri to Calder, and many more, with rightful recognition also afforded to all those who work in the background on staging and production. The book features exceptional pictures, some taken from the historical, audio and visual archives of the Rome Opera House, while others are by famous photographers and show more recent works, illustrating the Rome Opera’s will to experiment and the international scope of its productions.
