The encounter of dance and photography: a nude body against the backdrop of the rugged Sicilian landscape.
[Air] To photograph air. What could be harder to convey, in images, than something that is invisible by definition?
An intriguing challenge that has been met, with powerful expressive force, by the images in this book. The result of the encounter, on the island of Pantelleria, of Fabrizio Ferri and Alessandra Ferri, the book represents the collaboration of two extraordinary talents, a photographer and a ballerina. The artistic expression of the dance of Alessandra is perfectly interpreted by Fabrizio’s lens in fascinating pictures.
The dark, rugged Sicilian landscape, the clear sky, the force of the solitary palms all interact with the language of the body. The choice of working in the nude stems from an awareness that garments would have been excessive – nothing stands between Alessandra’s dance and the ability of the photographer to capture and communicate emotions in a sequence of truly unique images.
