The volume reconstructs the figure of Anselmo Ballester (1897-1974), painter, graphic designer and illustrator, one of the most significant Italian film poster artists of the 20th century, from the years of his training to the period of his greatest success. A gaze in depth at the artist’s achievement resting on a solid academic training to which were added studies of contemporary artistic currents and eclectic research. The result is only apparently realistic, and is based on a visual repertoire that the general public had learned to read and his clients insistently requested, as shown by his numerous creations for the leading national and international film production companies. His works are therefore the expression of long, continuous research aimed at identifying an ever closer tie between films and audiences, with a constant combination of artistic and commercial elements and costume.
