Napoli Napoli. Di lava, porcellana e musica
curated by Sylvain Bellenger
The 18 rooms of the Royal Suite of the Museum of Capodimonte, re-proposed in a spectacular and involving setting, conceived by the artist Hubert Gall as the direction of a musical opera, are the exceptional stage on which is performed the Teatro di San Carlo and the porcelains of Capodimonte, with music, the real thread of the exhibition, with music as the real leitmotif of the exhibition.
The exhibition design tells the story of Naples as capital of the Kingdom during the 18th century and beyond, from the years of Charles of Bourbon to those of Ferdinand II, like a fairy tale, with a succession of scenes of everyday life characterised by extreme aesthetic refinement and existential joy, but which have as a background the passage of power, the changes in history, fashions and aesthetic tastes. Visitors can immerse themselves in an enchanted world and, thanks to the use of dynamic headphones, listen to music (from Giovanni Pergolesi to Domenico Cimarosa, Giovanni Pacini, Giovanni Paisiello, Leonardo Leo and Niccolo Jommelli) selected to suit the various themes artistic of each room.
The exhibition includes over 1000 objects, 600 of which are porcelain artefacts from the Royal Factories of Capodimonte and Naples, more than 100 costumes from the Teatro di San Carlo by prestigious designers (from Ungaro to Odette Nicoletti), musical instruments from the Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella in Naples, paintings, art objects, furniture and taxidermied animals now preserved in the Zoological Museum of Naples (merged with the Museum Centre of Natural and Physical Sciences of the Università Federico II in Naples).
