Je suis l’autre Giacometti, Picasso e gli altri.
Il Primitivismo nella scultura del Novecento
07 apr – 28 jul 2019
The exhibition Je suis l’autre. Giacometti, Picasso e gli altri. Il Primitivismo nella scultura del Novecento is curated by Francesco Paolo Campione with Maria Grazia Messina and creates a dialogue between 70 sculptures by great 20th-century masters and ethnic and folk art masterpieces dating from the 18th-early 20th century, as well as a selection of pre-Colombian works.
After a first stop at the Diocletian Baths in Rome, the exhibition continues at Musec in Lugano creating a dialogue between 70 sculptures by great 20th-century masters and ethnic and folk art masterpieces dating from the 18th-early 20th century, as well as a selection of pre-Colombian works.
Je suis l’autre is a theme journey through the creative act, the subconscious and myth. It is conceived as a map guiding visitors through the formal revolution of the 20th century, born out of the encounter between avant-garde and ethnic/folk artists. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by Electa and edited by Francesco Paolo Campione and Maria Grazia Messina. It contains numerous essays and is extensively illustrated. A rich anthology on “primitive art” as seen by artists and intellectuals of the 20th century will also be presented at the Lugano exhibition.
