Dive & Madrine Tra Cinecittà e la Mostra Internazionale del Cinema di Venezia negli scatti di Uli Weber

The volume accompanies the exhibition of the same name presented in Venice at the “Biennale Cinema 2024. 81st Venice International Film Festival”, held at the Hotel Excelsior from 28 August to 7 September 2024.

The Istituto Cinecittà Luce asked Uli Weber, with his artistic sensibility and modern techniques, to reinterpret the photos by masters of the past who have depicted the extraordinary stars of the Italian cinema in unique expressions and movements, writing part of their history. These photographs, exhibited at the Hotel Excelsior in Venice where they were taken, aim to make splendid contemporary actresses equally “immortal”, continuing to recount, in a continuing dialogue, another piece of history of that Italian cinema that is the unique cultural heritage of our country and of which the Archivio Luce preserves a precious record. The photographer accepted the challenge of expressing his creativity in a dialogue with the past, reproducing the tones of black and white photos and at the same time playing with colours, chiaroscuro and backgrounds. We therefore see a parallel dialogue between Sophia Loren and Caterina Murino, Virna Lisi and Vittoria Puccini, Stefania Sandrelli and Rocío Muñoz Morales, Claudia Cardinale and Serena Rossi, Alida Valli and Sonia Bergamasco, Monica Vitti and Sveva Alviti, Mariangela Melato and Anna Foglietta and, finally, Silvana Mangano and Kasia Smutniak.
