The volume accompanies the exhibition presented in Genoa, at the Palazzo Ducale from 12 October 2024 to 23 February 2025.

Berthe Morisot (1841-1895), well known as one of the founders of a movement that changed the course of art history, is recognised as the first Impressionist woman. Her extremely varied work comprises almost five hundred canvases and a large body of watercolours, pastels, drawings and engravings. In the 1880s, this abundance drew inspiration from the remarkable discovery of the Riviera.
Through a significant number of previously unpublished documents – letters, sketches, drawings and paintings – and based on extensive research, the volume reconstructs in depth Morisot’s vacations on the Riviera and reveals how greatly they inspired the artist. The works she produced during her stays on the Riviera bring out the specifics of her work, compared to the canvases by Monet and Renoir, who in turn painted in these same places, so revealing an artist of great refinement and virtuosity.
