Pino Pascali. Disegnare una fotografia

€ 39,00

Throughout his career in graphic design and advertising, Pascali frequently used photographic materials and techniques, which, alongside drawing and video, became key tools lor his numerous explorations and productions.

Alongside the recently recovered sequence of drawings lor Intermezzo 23 – an animated short film made for the second channel of ltalian national television RAI in which Pascali brings to Iife his beloved Postero’s, characters from an improbable ‘archaic future’ seen trying to use an ancient bellows camera – the volume also presents an investigation into the artist’s frequent use of the photographic medium. In this exploration Pascali appears both in front of and behind the camera: we see him acting in a film, performing alongside his sculptures, taking photographs or an advertising project, or, as in the case of Intermezzo 23, ‘drawing a photograph’.

The pictures taken by Pascali in Rome and Naples in 1965-66 (or the production of a commercial lor the company Cirio), are accompanied by shots by renowned ltalian photographers who worked alongside Pascali in a period of intense artistic production, from 1964 until his untimely death at the age of 33 in 1968.

The photographs by Claudio Abate, Elisabetta Catalano, Marcello Colitti, and Ugo Mulas showcase the joyful and spontaneous performativity of the Apulian artist in front of the camera, also wearing extravagant masks and costumes.
