This pack of cards – for which there are no rules of the game – was devised as an Ariadne’s thread to find a way through the labyrinth of the exhibition on Gae Aulenti at the Triennale (22 May 2024 – 12 January 2025). Among the crowd of characters who thronged the worlds traversed by Gae Aulenti (1927-2012), 88 have been chosen, each paired with a card, drawn by Giovanna Buzzi (who is also responsible for choosing and matching the names) and a text by Giovanni Agosti.
These cards, like those of footballers, aspire to be pills of history, public and private, serving to reconstruct a social and professional comedy, which is still significant today and whose traces we still have to reckon with. The scenes on which to place the cards range from the Calabria of Gae Aulenti’s childhood summers to Spain after Franco, from the Biella of her adolescence and the Resistance to the Paris of the Musée d’Orsay and Mitterrand, from the Rome of the Quirinale to the Venice of the Biennale, with Milan at the centre.
