The volume accompanies the exhibition presented at the Palazzo Reale in Genoa from 18 May to 29 September 2024. The close ties between the Roman colony of Luna and Apuan marble has long been well known to the scientific community but not to the general public. Through a narrative that ranges from the quarrying techniques to the sea routes and the role of Rome as a privileged buyer of Luna stone (aka Carrara marble), the volume and exhibition seek to make more widely known the success in architecture and sculpture of this highly prized material.
