There is an alchemy in the words “Pinacoteca civica.” The word “Pinacoteca” means a place intended to protect and preserve works, while the adjective “civica” expresses the fact that this heritage belongs to the civitas, the community that the gallery serves.
The book brings together a selection of works of which the Pinacoteca of Como is custodian. These range from medieval artefacts from local churches to Paolo Giovio’s collection of portraits of illustrious men, from the works belonging to closed-down religious buildings, to the treasures of collecting and the works of the historical avant-gardes, with Antonio Sant’Elia’s Futurism, Terragni’s Rationalism, Como’s Abstractionism, up until contemporary art.
