This volume accompanies a traveling exhibition (first presented at the Fondazione Arsenale Foundation of Iseo, Brescia, from 18 September to 7 November 2021). It presents an extraordinary anthology of the photographic work of Marcello Grassi, one of the most sensitive and poetic researchers into the archaeological and classical heritage, well known internationally for his wide-ranging investigation of the vestiges of the past preserved in European museums and archaeological sites.
Through over one hundred photographs, taken in forty years’ work, the book reviews masterpieces and secrets kept in prestigious museums (from Ravenna to Arles, from the Louvre to the Uffizi), recounted through Grassi’s unique and unmistakable lens and technique, dominated by the skilful use of natural light and shade.
The book accompanies a traveling exhibition that opens at the Fondazione Arsenale in Iseo and then continues to the Museo Nazionale Romano and the IAGA Contemporary Art Gallery of Cluj-Napoca (Romania).
