Savinio. A-Z

Caption

Published on the occasion of the monographic exhibition Savinio. Enchantment and Myth, opening soon (Rome, Palazzo Altemps), Savinio. A-Z adopts the ambitious and noble encyclopaedic form to offer a polyphonic narrative and a multidisciplinary approach in presenting an unusual portrait of one of the most eccentric protagonists of Italian twentieth-century culture. The volume develops like a true encyclopaedia: a succession of 107 entries by 31 authors who, by “disrupting and breaking down the traditional order”, as the curator Ester Coen explains, restore the Savino’s versatile and multifaceted personality, who was painter, writer, musician, costume and set designer, polemicist, critic and much more.

From the A of Achille Innamorato to the Z of Zeus Jupiter, passing through Cocteau (Jean), Gemito, Malaparte (Curzio), Mascagni (Pietro), Theseus and Venus.

A surprising journey into the artist’s universe and the culture of the European twentieth century.
