The new issue of “Arte Veneta”, the review of the Istituto di Storia dell’Arte della Fondazione Giorgio Cini (Institute of Art History of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini) in Venice.

Founded in 1947 – under the presidency of Giuseppe Fiocco and with the scientific editorship of Rodolfo Pallucchini – “Arte Veneta” has over time become one of the most important specialist publications in the history of art.

This issue opens with two essays devoted to early Venetian Renaissance sculpture and continues with interesting contributions from the sixteenth century, with an outstanding essay by Roberta Battaglia and Anna Pizzati on Tintoretto’s Crucifixion for San Severo. It includes important insights into the Veneto eighteenth century, with studies by Andrea Tomezzoli on Antonio Balestra and Pietro Antonio Rotari; by Bernardina Sani, who presents a pastel by Rosalba Carriera from the Gabinetto di Rosalba (Cabinet of Rosalba) in Dresden; and by Bozena Anna Kowalczyk, who makes known the correspondence between Anton Maria Zanetti and Hugh Howard preserved in the National Library of Ireland in Dublin.

This is followed by the Segnalazioni (Reviews), where the two contributions by Vittoria Romani and Vincenzo Mancini ideally close the “Aretino year”, and finally, for the Archival Records, the texts by Anne Markahm Schulz and Valentina Sapienza which provide an account of important documents kept in the Archivio di Stato (State Archives) of Venice.

All contributions are richly illustrated. The volume is completed by the Bibliography, available in ebook format.
