The Re-opening of the MANN – Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli Magna Graecia Collection

After almost 20 years the MANN – Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli Magna Graecia collection reopens.
From 11 July the public will be able to visit the new layout designed by the archaeologist Enzo Lippolis, who passed away prematurely last year, and to whom the first room of the new section of the Museum is dedicated.
This is one of the oldest, and richest, collections of Magna Graecia antiquities in the world, acquired through gifts and purchases and displayed in what was then the Royal Bourbon Museum from the late eighteenth to the early twentieth century.
The collection numbers over 400 pieces, in a vital portrait of how the area was settled, its social and political structures and the system of relationships between the communities, an essential part of the religious, artistic and cultural heritage of southern Italy and Campania in pre-Roman times.
Among the main features of the exhibition the votive offerings from Locri are outstanding, in particular the items from the sanctuary in the Parapezza precinct dedicated to the goddess Demeter, an excellent example of the importance of religious ritual in the social and political organization of Magna Graecia.
The reopening of the Magna Graecia collection is accompanied by a guide and catalogue curated by Paolo Giulierini and Marialucia Giacco and published by Electa.

Opening Times
9.00 am – 07.30 pm, closed on Tuesdays. The public will be asked to leave the premises from 7.00 pm onwards.
Every Thursday from 6 June 2019 to 1 August 2019, extended evening opening until 11.00 pm. From 07.00 pm to 11.00 pm, admission: 2 euros. The public will be asked to leave the premises from 10.30 pm onwards.

Full price: 15 euros.
Reduced: 2 euros (for EU citizens between 18 and 25 years old).
Special reduced price for ArteCArd holders (admission 50%) and those accompanying OpenMANN subscribers.
Free for under 18s and participants in the 18app programme.
