The accompanying volume to the exhibition on Marinella Pirelli (Milan, Museo del Novecento, 22 March- 25 August 2019). An intensely experimental artist, Pirelli’s work was considered ground-breaking in the 1960s, thanks to her constant determination to push accepted boundaries. These fascinating films, focusing on the play between colour and abstract shapes, are the fruit of the artist’s reflections on light and how it is refracted. Works which also carry allusive references to femininity and what it means to be an artist. This catalogue is the first wide-ranging monograph on Pirelli and includes, again for the first time, a complete catalogue of her films, compiled by the critic Érik Bullot. The overview by curators Iolanda Ratti and Lucia Aspesi are complemented by contributions from Vittoria Broggini and Andrea Lissoni and an anthology with essays by Tommaso Trini, Fernanda Pivano, Gillo Dorfles and Achille Bonito Oliva.
