Agostino Ferrari’s ouevre is recounted in this general catalogue divided into 21 themed sections that coincide with as many artistic periods. Presented in chronological sequence, the Milanese artist’s work develops all around the “sign”, intended as the basic element of a new vocabulary which radically renews the discourse of art. With this ambitious and revolutionary aim, shortly after 1960 Ferrari undertook a long itinerary, documented here in full by 2,670 works, of which 125 are reproduced in colour. The sign is their central feature as a symbolic, physical, material and narrative element: a long loyalty in which it is possible today to identify one of the principal strands in the languages of painting and contemporary art. The volume is completed by the introductory essay by Martina Corgnati, a text by Ugo Volli and a rigorous bibliographic and critical apparatus. Archival research by Veronica Ferrari.
