Divinities, the powerful, ordinary folk and heroes. The four themes underlying Fuori Scena, a cycle of readings from the classics and contemporary literature. Every Thursday evening in August the four sites of the Museo Nazionale Romano, Palazzo Altemps, Crypta Balbi, the Baths of Diocletian and Palazzo Massimo, open their doors to the words of great authors, interpreted by actors from the Scuola di Perfezionamento of Teatro di Roma and accompanied by musicians.

Through a division into the human and the extra-human, the chosen readings offer a new approach to the Museum. At the monumental Baths of Diocletian Fuori Scena reconstructs the imperial populace and imperial munificence; the Crypta Balbi narrates daily life in the last days of Rome’s greatness and a new era as the Dark Ages dawn; Palazzo Massimo explores beauty and type in the image of heroes and the decorative elements favoured by the Caesars; while the superb classical works in the Renaissance splendour of Palazzo Altemps illustrate how the nobility used their collections to display their power and wealth. All narratives throwing a new light on the Museum’s collections through the Thursday evening readings curated by Emanuela Pistilli.
