"There is only one way to experience architecture, which is through the finished building. All exhibitions of architecture must start from this simple understanding. Photographs and images of completed projects are no compensation." David Chipperfield, from the catalogue foreword
The catalogue of the David Chipperfield Architects Works 2018 exhibition at the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza (12 May-2 September 2018) is published by Electaarchitettura, with Koenig Books.
David Chipperfield Architects Works 2018presents a selection of approximately 20 recent and ongoing projects in all their development phases, illustrating a number of the activities executed in an architectural office today. Each project presentation was developed by the relative design group in the London, Berlin, Milan and Shanghai offices and conveys the desire to address cultural, professional and intellectual challenges. “This exhibition represents our attempt to show how we work, how we develop ideas, how we work in parallel in different projects, cultures, and with different resources, priorities and collaborators, balancing local and global perspectives.” – David Chipperfield
The catalogue features a foreword by David Chipperfield and a “Palladian Chipperfield” essay by Fulvio Irace as well as drawings, pictures and photographs illustrating his most recent and ongoing projects, plus key buildings designed by the office since it was founded in 1985.
