Electa publishes the catalogue of an exhibition on Ludovico Lazzarelli and the Mantegna Tarocchi from the Ambrosian collections at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan (17 April-1 July 2018).
Normally closed to the public for conservation reasons, the so-called “Mantegna Tarocchi” are among the marvels in the possession of the Ambrosiana.
Precious testament to the versatility of the human intellect, these engravings are symbolic and graphic masterpieces, still highly mysterious because, despite an extensive bibliography, nothing certain has yet been said about their creator or the real reason behind their production.
This publication, the product of long and ardent studies by Laura Paola Gnaccolini, takes readers on a fascinating journey through one of the least recognised chapters of the Italian Renaissance, arriving at the potential identification of the humanist responsible for this precious work.
