Novecento di carta

curated by Claudio Salsi

Novecento di carta

The Novecento di Carta catalogue provides a guide to the exhibition held from 23rd March to 1st July 2018 at the Sforza Castle in Milan.

he exhibition, organised by the cultural division of Milan’s municipal authorities and Sforza Castle, hosts masterpieces of 20th-century Italian graphics on loan from civic collections and the Intesa Sanpaolo collection and is part of a series of exhibitions dedicated to the 20th century. It features drawings, engravings and artists’ books from the most celebrated artists of the last century.
This is a singular opportunity for the Castle to showcase a selection of works from an extraordinary heritage, unique in quality and variety, and rarely accessible to the public due to its intrinsic fragility.
Produced and organised by the publishing company Electa, the exhibition is curated by Claudio Salsi in collaboration with the graphics collection’s scientific committee.
The catalogue opens with an introduction by the curator, explaining the logic of the exhibition and its structure. The bulk of the catalogue is made up of essays investigating the origins of the over 200 pieces of art, each featured in full colour in the following pages, with footnotes on the different sections of the exhibition. The catalogue ends with a brief summary and the bibliography.
